Description
The Directorate is responsible for overseeing the freshwater policy as a whole. In particular, it coordinates the implementation of the European Water Framework Directive and the resulting planning and programming policies. It steers policies for the quantitative management of water resources. It coordinates policies for the protection, restoration and sustainable management of freshwater aquatic ecosystems and wetlands, as well as monitoring policies relating to fish species.
