Description
by the International Labour Organization’s Child Labour Platform in partnership with Levin Sources and the U.S. Department of Labor
Eliminating child labour and improving working conditions in ASM are critical for responsible mineral supply chains. With COVID-19 exacerbating socioeconomic vulnerabilities, more effective multi-stakeholder collaboration with increased information-sharing and bottom-up partnerships are urgently needed to tackle child labour in mining communities. In the context of the 2021 International Year for the Elimination of Child Labour, this session will (1) highlight promising practices and lessons learned from selected initiatives; (2) share the experiences of Governments, private companies, social partners and other actors in developing and implementing practical actions against child labour at all levels; and (3) propose ways to accelerate progress to achieve SDG Target 8.7 and decent work in the mining sector.
Simultaneous interpretation into French and Spanish will be available.
