Description
Mark Pearson is Deputy-Director for Employment, Labour and Social Affairs (ELS) at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
Mark has worked on many issues at the OECD, from taxation of multinational business, promoting environmental objectives through fiscal reforms, financing the welfare state, and tackling inequalities. He was head of the OECD Social Policy Division from 2002-2008, and then head of the OECD Health Division from 2008-2013. Since then, as Deputy Director, he has helped lead work on health, social policy, labour markets and migration on the digital, green and demographic transitions. Through the various crises (Syrian Refugee, COVID-19, Ukrainian war, cost-of-living/energy crisis) he has supported countries in their crisis management. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he led the OECD initiative on safe international mobility. Before joining the OECD, Mr. Pearson was employed by the Institute for Fiscal Studies in London, and has been a consultant for the World Bank, the IMF and the European Commission.
Mr. Pearson is British, and has a degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics from Oxford, and an MSc in Economics and Econometrics from Birkbeck, University of London.
