Global Relations Manager and Competition Expert/Economist at the Competition Division of the OECD. In 2013 Ania Thiemann lead a ground breaking project in Greece to unearth and analyse regulatory barriers on competition in four sectors of the Greek economy and to estimate their impact on the Greek economy. The project led to 329 individual hands on recommendations for lifting restrictive legal provisions and we estimated a total benefit to the Greek economy of around EUR 5.2 billion annually. Prior to that she was Senior Economist and Project Manager in the Private Sector Development Division of the OECD, working exclusively on the Middle East and North Africa. Particular focus on Business Climate Development. Moved to the OECD in November 2009 after 9 years with The Economist. Previously she was senior country analyst/economist and economic forecaster with The Economist Group from November 2000-09. Extensive experience in analysing political and economic developments in Western Europe and the Middle East/North Africa. Country specific expertise for Algeria, Egypt, the Palestinian Territories, Tunisia and the United Arab Emirates. Also Denmark, Portugal, France, Norway, Great Britain, and Iceland. Position included carrying out economic forecasting, business environment analysis, and country risk analysis, including sovereign, banking and currency risk. Regular contributor to several economic publications. She has significant experience as speaker/chair at major international conferences at the highest level, as well as in human resources, marketing and company procurement.
