Description
Dr. Daniela Bankier is Head of Consumer Policy at the European Commission, Directorate General Justice and Consumers.
Since joining the European Commission in 1999, Daniela has been working on a wide array of policy fields ranging from promoting equality in the European Union, economic and fiscal policies for sustainable growth, fundamental rights, to the EU budget and its contribution to European integration.
From 1999-2004, Daniela was a Member of the Cabinet of the German budget Commissioner Michaele Schreyer. She also served as the deputy head of cabinet of Vladimir Spidla, Commissioner responsible for Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities.
Dr. Daniela Bankier started her professional career at the Austrian Central Bank. She was the Head of the Austrian Central Bank's Representation at the Austrian Representation to the European Union from 1995 to 1999, where she was in charge of negotiating the terms of Austria’s participation in the common European currency.
Dr. Daniela Bankier studied law in Vienna, Paris and at the University of Michigan, Law School and obtained her PhD on the legal questions of European Economic and Monetary Union in 2003.
