Description

Marcus was appointed Chair of the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) Board in September 2022. The CMA is the U.K.'s primary competition and consumer protection authority, accountable to Parliament. Since taking on the role, Marcus has focused the CMA on achieving positive outcomes for people, businesses and the U.K. economy. Specifically, the CMA acts to ensure that consumers have a choice and get a fair deal; that competitive businesses are free to innovate and get a fair shot at success; and that the U.K. economy is better able to grow productively and sustainably. Previously, he was an investor-advisor to entrepreneurs and a Senior Partner and Managing Director at Boston Consulting Group (BCG). At BCG, Marcus led the firm’s U.K. and European Consumer Practice, Strategy Practice, and a range of global client teams. He also established and developed BCG’s China business. In addition to his CMA role, Marcus serves on the Board of Governors of the Manchester Grammar School and chairs the Pembroke College, Cambridge Development Board.
