Description
Dr. ir. Nawin Ryan Nannan (Ryan; 43) is the ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of Suriname to France (accredited on February 29th 2024) and the designated permanent delegate to UNESCO. Prior to these roles, he was full professor in Sustainable Energy Technology (October 2022 – November 2023) and Academic Dean (March 2015 – May 2023) of the Faculty of Technology of the Anton de Kom University of Suriname. He served as member of the presidential study and steering committee on gas development (April 2023 – September 2023), and he has worked as consultant for Staatsolie Maatschappij Suriname NV, UNDP, Econoler (IDB funded project), Trama TTA (IDB funded project), CCREEE, and WWF Guianas (period spanning 2012 – 2023 as individual consultant). He served as member of the supervisory board of Staatsolie Maatschappij Suriname N.V. (August 2020 – October 2022) and as chairman of the risk and compliance committee of said board. Ryan Nannan has an MSc degree (cum laude; 2004) in process and energy technology (mechanical engineering) and a PhD degree (cum laude; 2009) in advanced energy systems (mechanical engineering), both from Delft University of Technology, Netherlands. He has worked as guest researcher at Delft University of Technology (2 months; 2011) and Politecnico di Milano, Italy (4 months; 2012) and during his studies he conducted research work at the National Institute of Standards and Technology in Gaithersburg, MD. USA (September 2004 – November 2004). Ryan Nannan has co-authored 20 academic papers. He is married and has a son. He has served as part-time senior lecturer on properties of petroleum fluids in the accredited MSc-program Petroleum Geosciences and Engineering at Anton de Kom University of Suriname.
