Description

Ulrich Herzog studied veterinary medicine at the University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna where he worked from 1999 onward in the Dean of Studies office, gaining a HE Diploma in 2001 and his doctorate in 2011. In 2001, he became a veterinarian consultant at the Austrian Chamber of Agriculture. From 2003 to 2008, he joined the Federal Health Minister’s Office and was appointed Head of Consumer Health and Veterinary Affairs Department in 2004. Finally, Herzog took over the position as Director General for Consumer Policy and Consumer Health in 2020. He is Supervisory Board Member at the Austrian Agency for Health and Food Safety, at the Austrian Consumer Association as well as Deputy Supervisory Board Head of the Spanish Riding School Vienna. As Chief Veterinary Officer, he has been a Delegate to the CVO Working Group of the EU Council and to the World Animal Health Organization (WOAH) since 2005. Since 2014 he has been Vice President of the Regional Commission Europe at WOAH and Deputy Chair of the European Commission of the Global Forum of Transboundary animal diseases (GFTads). Since 2020, he has been Management Board Member of the European Food Safety Agency (EFSA).
