Dr. Ayoade Olatunbosun-Alakija is the founder of the Nexus Hub, an innovation centre, research, social development and emergency response unit for the West Africa/Sahel region headquartered in Abuja, Nigeria. She currently serves on the advisory board of WomenLift health and is an active member of the CONVINCE COVID-19 vaccine advisory team.
She is former Chief Humanitarian Coordinator for the government of Nigeria and led the joint national and international Humanitarian response in the Lake Chad region between 2016-2019.
Dr. Alakija has served on the Advisory Board for the George Washington University, Africa Centre for Health and Human Security in Washington DC. She has advised on achievement of Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and the post 2015 development agenda in the areas of health, education and life-skills in Africa (Rwanda, Kenya and Malawi to name but a few), the Caribbean and the Pacific where her input was integral to MDG achievement in certain quarters.
In her capacity as Chief Humanitarian Co-ordinator, Dr. Alakija has served as high-level interlocutor between GON and global international community in Geneva, Rome, Brussels and Washington D.C. with both governments and multilateral organisations. At the domestic and global level in Nigeria, she acted as interlocutor with Heads of Co-operation of USAID, DFID, EU, NORAD, GiZ, SDC and undertakes “soft diplomacy” at the political level with Ambassadors, Ministers and Government Representatives. AOA has been successful in substantially improving donor engagement, as well as significantly strengthening relationships with key donor headquarters. Dr. Alakija has fostered excellent working relationship with International Financial Institutions, IMF, AfDB, IDB and World Bank and forged numerous high-level strategic partnerships mobilising public, private and third sector partners.
