Description
Dilip Ratha is a lead economist and economic adviser to the VP of Operations at Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA) in the World Bank. In this role he monitors global economic trends and financial flows with a view to support private capital mobilization in developing countries. Considered a global expert on remittances and innovative financing, he has published pioneering papers on migration, diaspora bonds, future-flow securitization, predicting sovereign ratings, and South-South FDI. A sought-after speaker, his TED talk on remittances, with 1.5 million views, has inspired many fintech start-ups. He is the Founder of KNOMAD, Migrating out of Poverty Research Program Consortium, and African Institute of Remittances. Prior to the World Bank, he worked as an Asia Regional Economist at Credit Agricole Indosuez W.I. Carr Securities (Hong Kong and Singapore) and as an economist at the Policy Group (Delhi). At the start of his career, he taught macroeconomics at Indian Institute of Management (Ahmedabad). He has a Ph.D. in economics from Indian Statistical Institute where his thesis used a multi-sector CGE model to analyze planning and resource mobilization through administered price increases, food and fertilizer subsidies and taxes. He is frequently cited in major media channels worldwide.
