This session is organised by the UNDP, Knowledge Partner of the virtual 2021 OECD Global Anti-Corruption & Integrity Forum. The language of this session is English. Corruption and its consequences have significantly impacted COVID-19 response and recovery. During the COVID-19 pandemic, corruption has depleted valuable resources for financing crisis response and recovery, and has undermined the effective delivery of public services. Most recently, the rapid deployment of vaccines globally is faced with major corruption risks. The impact of corruption and its implications for governance systems, the economy and society as a whole, are significant. These include the devastating impact on poverty, inequality, trust, and social cohesion. Without addressing and mitigating corruption risks across sectors and different areas of crisis response and recovery, such efforts may be undermined, and the impact of recovery measures may be limited. On the other hand, ensuring transparency, accountability and integrity in crisis response significantly helps to promote an effective, fair and equitable recovery, so that no one is left behind. This workshop will therefore discuss the impact of corruption and integrity on COVID-19 response and recovery, and the importance of integrating anti-corruption in and beyond the COVID-19 pandemic.
