Description
David Newman serves as Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General for the National Security Division at the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ). From January 2021-October 2022, he served as the Associate Deputy Attorney General for National Security Affairs. Prior to returning to DOJ, David was a partner at
Morrison & Foerster LLP, where he was Co-Chair of the Firm’s Global Risk and Crisis Management Practice. David earlier in his career served as Associate White House Counsel and Special Assistant to the President in the Office of the White House Counsel (2015-2017), in various posts on the staff of the
National Security Council (2013-2015), and as Counsel to the Assistant Attorney General for National Security at DOJ (2011-2013). He is a graduate of Columbia College and Yale Law School and a former law clerk to Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg of the U.S. Supreme Court
