This side session focuses on the invisible parts of garment and footwear supply chains—workers who work in workshops and from their homes. Informal employment outside of factories is ubiquitous in the global garment and footwear supply chains. Indeed in India, most of the workforce in the sector work in workshops or from their homes. The session discusses new analysis by the ILO on informal employment in Cambodia, Bangladesh, India and Vietnam and discusses HomeNet International’s latest research findings on homeworkers in these four countries.
