Madelaine Tuininga works for the Directorate-General for Trade of the European Commission since 1998. Since 2016, she is head of unit of the unit in DG Trade responsible for trade and sustainable development. The unit covers a broad area of topics, including trade aspects of labour, environment, development and human rights. Activities include amongst others policy development, initiatives and negotiations in relation to these areas; negotiation and implementation of the EU's Trade and Sustainable Development chapters in Free Trade Agreements; the management of the EU's Generalised System of Preferences; the trade side of corporate social responsibility/responsible business conduct; the trade side of the SDGs. Madelaine Tuininga has a law degree from the University of Amsterdam.
