Despite years of discussion about addressing poverty wages in the garment sector, progress has been painfully slow. In light of this, civil society organisations have been increasingly calling for legally binding measures to ensure workers are paid a living wage within global supply chains.
A coalition of stakeholders, including citizens, civil society organisations, trade unions, and lawyers are now joining forces to bring the first ever European Citizen’s Initiative on Living Wages in the Garment, Textile and Footwear Sector, that will present a clear, united voice to the EU for the urgent change that is required. The Circle is honoured to be part of this movement.
This session will explore the legal proposals that the coalition recommends – a package of measures that will work together to raise wages within global supply chains. We will consider how these measures fit alongside current initiatives at the EU and hear reactions from key stakeholders.
