It was in April 2020 that Didier Reynders, the EU Commissioner for Justice announced the EU would introduce legislation compelling companies that operate in the EU to conduct human rights and environmental due diligence. The session will explore the repercussions EU HREDD legislation could have on global trade, and the supply chain preparedness of producer countries. How are business partners / producers gearing up to the challenge / getting prepared / remaining competitive? What is the role for capacity building and awareness raising? As the scale and scope of business-related human rights issues gains wider attention, there is seemingly more at stake, including the direction of international trade and investment policy.
