Description
Based in New York, Michael is charged with ensuring that PVH’s Corporate Responsibility policies, both human rights and environment, are respected by the company and enforced throughout its supply chain. Michael is also responsible for advising PVH on developments in the legislative, regulatory and public affairs spheres insofar as they relate to human rights, environmental sustainability and product sustainability and for leading the Issues Management team which advises on the company globally on developments carrying potential reputational risk.
PVH works to ensure that its human rights and environmental policies are respected not just with the use of a global human rights and environment assessment program, but by working with external stakeholders, internal business partners and its supplier base to drive programmatic change, under its Forward Fashion strategy.
Michael serves as point for PVH in much of its stakeholder engagement, including with various Governments around the world and with the NGO/human rights community.
Michael previously served as Deputy Director for Workplace Programs and Bangladesh Stakeholder Engagement for the Bangladesh Accord and comes from a labor rights background, having led Global Strategies for the United Food and Commercial Workers’ International Union (UFCW) of USA and Canada based in Washington D.C. and, before that, serving as General Counsel for the Communications Workers’ Union and Organizing Officer for the bank workers’ union in his native Ireland.
A qualified barrister in Ireland and an attorney licensed in the State of New York, Michael also holds an LL.M in International Law from Georgetown Law (with a specialization in International Human Rights Law), a postgraduate diploma in Arbitration Law from University College Dublin and a first class honors business degree from DeMontfort University in the UK. Michael serves on the Board of the International Accord for Health and Safety in the Textile and Garment Sector.
