Description
As an expert in biosecurity, anticipatory governance and responsible innovation, Sophie is a staunch advocate for international cooperation in biotechnology policy. She is the French representative at ISO TC 276: Biotechnology working group. An active member of several Nuclear Threat Initiative (NTI) working groups, the International Gene Synthesis Consortium (IGSC), and the Engineering Biology Research Consortium (EBRC) security and International policy working groups. At the EU level, she has also been an active contributor to exchanges with the European Commission, namely to the new Biotechnology and Biomanufacturing initiative. Sophie played a critical role in the revision of the ASPR/HHS Screening Framework Guidance for providers and users of synthetic nucleic acides, namely by providing expert input on the specific challenges faced by benchtop device manufacturers, and the solutions developed by them. As senior director Public Affairs at DNA Script, a global leader in enzymatic DNA synthesis, Sophie developed the company's first biosecurity policy, as well as its Know Your Customer cross-departmental procedure. During her tenure at DNA Script, she also played a leadership in role in establishing and fostering critical partnerships and projects with cutting edge sequence screening providers in order to firmly establish biosecurity considerations at a policy & strategic level.
She has dedicated most of her career to public health and research, having worked on a broad range of issues covering both communicable and non-communicable diseases. Over the years, she has successfully built relationships with regional and international organizations, national governments, trade associations, civil society, academia, the public and private sectors to bridge the gap between their objectives and the policy environment in which they operate.
Sophie is a University lecturer at Sciences Po University (Paris), her courses focus on governance for responsible emerging technologies. She is a graduate of the Sorbonne Law School, Johns Hopkins University (SAIS) and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM).
