Description
Christy Hoffman is the General Secretary of UNI Global Union, the global union federation for the services industries representing more than 20 million workers in 150 countries, a position she has held since 2018.
Her work at UNI followed more than 25 years of experience as a US based trade unionist, beginning as a shop steward in a jet engine factory, later as an organizer and finally as legal counsel to several leading US unions.
At UNI, among other responsibilities, she has been instrumental in the development of UNI’s work with multinationals to secure the right to organize, and its focus on support for campaigns through capacity and solidarity.
An influential advocate for corporate accountability and the human rights of workers, she also negotiated the ground-breaking Accord for Fire and Building Safety in Bangladesh. Christy regularly speaks and writes on the important role of unions in connection with the implementation of digital technologies at work.
Christy holds a Juris Doctor from NYU Law School and a BA in Economics from Smith College.
