Description
Roopa Nair is the Head of Operations, Quality and Innovation for for Better Work, based at the ILO in Geneva. In her role, she is part of Better Work’s Management team and oversees a team of technical experts specializing in gender, legal standards, industrial relations, systems and technology, as well as assessments, training and advisory services. The operations team supports country programmes and other global teams on factory services, constituent and partner capacity building and policy and legal advice. Prior to joining the ILO, Roopa worked in the non-profit and corporate sectors in Asia, Europe, and North America, working in the apparel, footwear, accessories, electronics and agriculture sectors. Most recently, she was Vice-President, Corporate Social Responsibility and Human Rights at PVH Corp. Prior to this she was the Director of Code Implementation and Monitoring at the Fair Labor Association and before that set up and oversaw Nike’s Corporate Responsibility work in South Asia. Roopa has a background in gender and development and started her career as a researcher, focusing mainly on women in both the formal and informal sector and women and migration. She graduated with a Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge, in England and has a BA and MA from McGill University, in Canada.
