Description

Dr Jeni Whalan is First Assistant Secretary leading the Office of Community Cohesion and the Strengthening Democracy Taskforce in the [Australian] Department of Home Affairs. The Office works to strengthen Australia’s social cohesion and democratic resilience. Previously, Dr Whalan was Chief Strategy Office at the Paul Ramsay Foundation, where she established and executed strategy for Australia’s largest philanthropic foundation. In government, she has worked with the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet, the Department of Defence, and the NSW Department of Education. Dr Whalan has held tenured academic positions at the University of Queensland and the University of New South Wales, fellowships and research affiliations at the University of Oxford and the University of Sydney, and has worked with research institutions and think tanks in Australia and around the world, including the Centre for Policy Development, the International Peace Institute and the Global Economic Governance Programme. Dr Whalan holds a DPhil and MPhil in International Relations from the University of Oxford.
