Biography
Born in the province of Milan, she graduated in Modern Literature from the Università Cattolica. Since 1997, she has been a high school teacher, working on issues of school dropout. In the 2013 general elections, she was nominated for the Chamber of Deputies as part of the Democratic Party list and she served on the Committee on Culture and Education, the Parliamentary Commission for Childhood and Adolescence, and the Commission of Inquiry into the safety conditions and the state of decay of cities and their suburbs. In the 2018 general elections, she was nominated for the Senate and became deputy group leader. In 2019, she was appointed Undersecretary of State with responsibility for relations with Parliament, a position she retained under Mario Draghi. On March 25, 2021, she was elected group leader of the Democratic Party, a position she held until March 2023. She is currently part of the Italian delegation to the NATO P.A.
