Biography
Dr. Tsuyoshi Yamaguchi has been elected eight times to the House of Representatives of the National Diet of Japan and is a member of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP). He was first elected in 2000.
He graduated from the Faculty of Law at the University of Tokyo. He earned a Ph.D. at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies. After joining the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1979, he served as a diplomat in the US, China, Pakistan and the UK.
In the Kishida Cabinet, he assumed the post of Minister of the Environment from 2021 to 2022, a role in which he contributed to the success of the COP26 UN Climate Change Conference through ministerial meetings. He also served as State Minister of Cabinet Office in 2011 and State Minister for Foreign Affairs from 2011 to 2012.
