Description

Dr. Emily Stein is a manager at Sandia National Laboratories, where she has supported the U.S. Department of Energy’s Spent Fuel and Waste Disposition program for over 8 years. In this role, she provides technical and program leadership for the Geologic Disposal Safety Assessment Framework and other aspects of the Disposal Research program. She has also managed R&D related to extended storage of spent nuclear fuel. Recently, she spent more than a year on detail to DOE headquarters as a Senior Advisor in the Office of Spent Fuel and Waste Disposition, supporting strategic planning for an integrated waste management system, analysis of nuclear waste policy, and consent-based siting. Emily began her career in Carlsbad, New Mexico, on the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant performance assessment team. She earned a PhD and MS in Earth Sciences from the University of California, Santa Cruz and a BA in Geology from Amherst College.
