Description
Jochen Ahlswede studied physics and political sciences in Münster and Hamburg (Germany), and specialized in nuclear non-proliferation. He began his career in the public sector at the German Federal Office for Radiation Protection (BfS), where he worked in the President’s Office on topics regarding deep geological repositories for radioactive waste. In 2016, he joined the newly founded Federal Office for the Safety of Nuclear Waste Management (BASE), the German regulatory authority for the disposal of nuclear waste. He is Head of the Research and International Cooperation Department at BASE, and is responsible for interdisciplinary research activities and long-term documentation.
