Description
Nan Li Collins is Senior Director of the Division on Investment and Enterprise with UNCTAD. She brings to her position a wealth of professional experience spanning over two decades in various strategic, management, and programmatic roles both in regional offices and at headquarters with the United Nations, and in the private sector across Asia, Africa, North America, and Europe.
She has solid expertise in promoting sustainable investments in developing countries from both public and private sector perspectives.
Nan's extensive experience includes her recent role as the Global Director of Sustainable Investments and Innovation at UNOPS, based in Helsinki, Finland, a position she has held since November 2020.
She led a global team to promote infrastructure investments in many developing countries, including energy transition and co-investing with MDBs and DFIs. She served as UNOPS focal point in the UN Inter-agency Task Force on Financing for Development and worked closely with top leadership in crisis management.
Prior to this, she served as the Head of UNDP SDG Innovative Finance and as Asia Head of South-South Cooperation and Investment at UNDP's Asia Pacific Center in Bangkok. She led a global team to engage public and private investors and championed national policy dialogues and networks on SDG investment, piloting SDG-aligned funds, bonds and projects with key stakeholders in multiple countries. She helped to position UNDP as a pioneer in the UN on sustainable investment and the broader innovative finance agenda. She also held positions as Management Specialist and as Policy Specialist in Capacity Development and Public-Private Partnerships at UNDP in New York and Johannesburg since 2009, supporting the top leadership in strategic planning, and overseeing a regional portfolio in Eastern and Southern Africa.
Before joining UNDP via the Leadership Development Program (LEAD), she spent about 10 years in the private sector in China and the USA, covering market entry and investment strategy, merger and acquisition, business development and sustainability. She holds a Master's degree in business administration from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in China, and participated in the Executive Leadership program at IESE, and Finance Executive program at Tsinghua University.
