Rolf Wenzel, a German national, was elected Governor of the CEB on 8 April 2016 and unanimously re-elected by the Bank's member states on 8 April 2016. He began his second five-year mandate on 18 December 2016. Before joining the CEB, Mr. Wenzel was Head of the Financial Policy Department of Germany's Federal Ministry of Finance. In a career spanning three decades, Mr. Wenzel has gained extensive experience in international and monetary policy, debt management, exchange rate policy issues, international development and financial markets. He has held senior positions in Germany's Federal Ministry of Finance, which he ioined in 1985, including Deputy Director-General for International Economic and Monetary Policies. He was a member of the German delegation to the intergovernmental conference on Europe's Economic and Monetary Union (EMU) and participated in the negotiations leading to the EMU. Mr. Wenzel has also served as Senior Advisor to the Executive Director for Germany at the International Monetary Fund in Washington D.C. and as Germany's Alternate Governor in the regional multilateral development banks. He has represented Germany in international fora such as G7 /GB, G20 and the OECD. Born in 1954, Mr. Wenzel holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Ruhr University Bochum and a Master's in Economics and Econometrics from Hamburg University. He conducted part of his doctoral research at the London School of Economics.
