Ms. Xiana Mendez, is Secretary of State for Trade at the Spanish Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism since 2018. Born on July 27, 1977 in Pontevedra, she has a degree in Law and in Business Administration and Management from the Universidad Pontificia Comillas. In 2004, she became a Civil Servant of the Spanish Administration as a member of the Corps of Trade Experts and Economists. She began her professional career in 2004 in the Competition Defense Service of the Ministry of Economy. Between 2013 and 2015, she held different positions in the General Directorate of Economic Policy of the Ministry of Economy, specialized in the transport and infrastructure sectors and official credit. From August 2015 to 2018 she was the Economic and Trade Counselor of the Embassy of Spain in Quito.
