Bio
Jean Monson joined MUFG in 2019 and is based in Singapore as a member of the Project Finance and ESG Finance teams, focusing on the origination and execution of project finance lending and advisory in the renewable and infrastructure sectors, and ESG Finance.
Jean is an experienced UK-qualified lawyer and investment banker having advised clients in the UK and the Asia Pacific regions over the last 14 years. She has executed financing transactions in the international debt capital markets (both loans and bonds) and numerous award-winning transactions in project finance and ESG.
At MUFG, Jean has originated and acted as advisor on market leading transactions in the renewable and infrastructure sectors and ESG Finance in India. Prior to MUFG, Jean was a debt originator in Barclays Capital’s Debt Capital Markets team in London and Singapore. Before moving into investment banking, Jean started her career in Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP (London) as a lawyer.
Jean is a thought leader in Renewables and ESG. She is a regular speaker and contributor to international publications, including the Asia Pacific Loan Market Association (APLMA) and Project Finance International (PFI), and has curated podcasts at MUFG.
Jean is a qualified Solicitor of England and Wales and holds a Masters in Law from Brasenose College, the University of Oxford (United Kingdom) and 1st class honours in Law (LLB) from Bristol University (United Kingdom). Jean has completed the University of Cambridge Sustainable Finance course and holds a CFA Certification in ESG: Investing in ESG. Jean is a member of the Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero (GFANZ) Net Zero Banking Alliance’s (NZBA) Steering Working Group and is the APAC regional champion. She is also a consultant for the Science Based Target Initiative (SBTi)’s Cement and Steel sector methodologies.
