Visiting Professor in Practice
Description
Rob Patalano serves as a Visiting Professor in Practice at the LSE Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment. He brings extensive experience in central banking, international financial policy and climate issues.
Currently, Rob is Head of the Market Intelligence and Analysis Division at the Bank of England, which is responsible for collecting market intelligence, assessing global financial markets including sustainable finance,and designing market operations policies. He serves as a Visiting Professor in Practice in his personal capacity.
Background
From 2018 to 2023, Rob was the Senior Counsellor and Head of the Financial Markets Division at the OECD in Paris, contributing to analysis and policy of financial markets and sustainable finance. He represented the OECD at the Financial Stability Board, the G20 Sustainable Finance Working Group, and the Network for the Greening of the Financial System. He directed and co-authored numerous publications on ESG, climate transition and financial markets, net zero, and biodiversity and financial systems.
From 2014, Rob was a member of the Financial Stability Board’s Secretariat in Basel, where he led the assessment of vulnerabilities in the global financial system, and chaired the Analytical Group on Vulnerabilities.
Prior to these international positions, Rob served for a decade in analytical and managerial roles in the markets groups of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and the European Central Bank.
Rob earned an MBA in finance and strategy from the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan, and an MA in international relations and economics from the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst and a Salzburg Fellow.
