Description

Thomas Viegas is Partnerships Lead of the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD). In this role, he is responsible in building and maintaining strategic partnerships and alliances to support the Taskforce’s work and mission. Thomas also leads the Taskforce’s engagements with central banks, financial supervisors, and other financial regulators, and its market capacity building efforts to support voluntary market adoption of the TNFD Recommendations. Thomas is also an Independent Member of the UK Statistics Authority's National Statistician’s Committee for Advice on Standards for Economic Statistics (NSCASE). The Committee's overarching aim is to support the UK by ensuring its processes for influencing and adopting international statistical standards are world-leading. Prior to joining the TNFD, Thomas was at the Bank of England where he spent nearly a decade working on and influencing a broad range of UK and global macro-financial policy issues. Thomas led the Bank of England’s initial approach and strategy to nature-related financial risks. He also played a key role in establishing the foundational work on nature-related financial risk within both the Network for Greening the Financial System (NGFS) and UN Sustainable Insurance Forum (SIF). During his time at the Bank of England, Thomas was seconded to the UK’s Finance Ministry (HMT) to be an Economic Adviser to The Economics of Biodiversity: The Dasgupta Review.
