Biography

Hon. Abdoulie Njai Born in Banjul, The Gambia, Hon. Abdoulie Njai is a transformative leader committed to community advancement, youth empowerment, and ethical governance. As the co-founder and former president of the renowned charity NGO Unity Foundation, Hon. Njai has profoundly impacted Greater Banjul and rural Gambia through initiatives such as food distributions, Medicare provisions, borehole projects, blood donation drives, and orphan assistance. He currently serves as the board chair of the Unity Foundation. Under his leadership as the former chairperson of The Development Oriented Citizens of Banjul (D.O.C BJL), he spearheaded a historic Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the City Council to enhance collaboration between civil society organizations and local councils. He holds double diplomas in engineering, a Business Administration degree from the Islamic Online University (IOU), and specialized training in ICT from Wuhan, People's Republic of China. On the global stage, Hon. Njai serves as Deputy Speaker of the International Youth Parliament, based in Addis Ababa, and is the Country Representative for the International Society of City and Urban Regional Planners (ISOCARP). In 2019, he was recognized by the EU-Gambia "Tekki Fii" project as one of The Gambia's thriving young entrepreneurs. In 2020, he was appointed as a Global Peace Ambassador by Peace Chain and became a member of the World Youth Alliance. During The Gambia’s 2016 political crisis, Hon. Njai showcased remarkable bravery. Amid a risky and unstable situation, he chose to remain in the country, assisting his fellow citizens during the electoral process and mass exodus. Through the Unity Foundation, he mobilized resources to provide food and mattresses to those stranded at borders and collaborated with aid workers and the Red Cross at the ferry terminal. In 2022, Hon. Njai was elected to the National Assembly, where he launched the Andandor Movement ("working together for change"). This youth-led initiative is geared towards transforming political engagement in The Gambia, empowering young people to assume active roles in governance and decision-making. The movement has ignited a new era of youth participation, fostering leadership and responsibility among the younger generation. Hon. Njai’s tenure in the National Assembly is marked by the establishment of a constituency secretariat, advocacy for the reintroduction of the Anti-corruption Bill and the Rent Bill, and robust support for women entrepreneurs and young athletes. He frequently speaks to youth across Africa, advocating for ethical leadership and meaningful engagement in decision-making. Through ECOLUM: Ecology and Environmental Luminaries, Hon. Njai is driving transformative environmental action. This pioneering entity focuses on converting innovative ideas into sustainable impacts, fostering policy reform, practical implementation, and international collaboration to address critical environmental challenges. Honored with the African Icon Award in 2022, Hon. Njai was recently named on the Politics & Policies Under30 Global List of Distinguished Youth Personalities in Politics by the Young India Foundation. He is also a member of the Global Parliamentarians on Climate Action, the Country Focal Person for Parliamentarians for a Fossil-Free Future, and a G20 GCAP Alumni. Additionally, Hon. Njai with Young-Consult LLC, which focuses on ethical leadership and good governance consultancy services. He continues to inspire and lead with vision, humility, and a steadfast commitment to reshaping the narrative for young people in The Gambia and across Africa.
