Biography

Cynthia Iliana López Castro is a Member of the Mexican Parliament for the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) since 2018. She was a federal deputy for the period from 2018 to 2021 and was reelected for the period from 2021 to 2024. She was one of the first reelected Congresswomen of Mexico. She serves as secretary of the Education Commission. She is also a Member of the Bureau of Women Parliamentarians of Inter Parliamentarian Union (IPU) and a Member of the Committee of Asia - Pacific Forum. From 2007 she held numerous positions in the structure of the PRI, among which was youth leader, candidate for local deputy, secretary of Electoral Action of the PRI in Tlalpan, secretary of Social Management in the Federal District, and national political counselor. She is the first woman to win the Cremer-Passy Prize as the Parliamentarian of the year in the IPU recognizing her work and contributions to youth quotas. In 2012 she became Director of Liaison of the Presidency of the Republic, being head of the Office of the Presidency Aurelio Nuño Mayer until 2014. She holds a bachelor's degree in Public Administration from the Universidad del Valle de México and a master's degree in Government and Politics from George Washington University. In addition, she has a degree in Political Science from the Autonomous Technological Institute of Mexico and a Ph.D. in Public Administration.
