Biography
Valerie Vaz is a Member of the House of Commons for Walsall South since 2010. She was a councillor in the London Borough of Ealing from 1986 to 1990, and the council's Deputy Leader from 1988 to 1989. Valerie Vaz served as Shadow Leader of the House of Commons and was Member of the Shadow Cabinet from October 2016 to May 2021. She was elected Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Epilepsy from 2015 to 2017. In 2019, Valerie Vaz was appointed a Member of Her Majesty’s Most Honourable Privy Council and received a Hon Doctor of Laws from the University of West London. In 2022, she was appointed to the UK-EU Parliamentary Partnership Assembly, and became a Governor of the Westminster Foundation for Democracy.
