Biography

Laurent Wehrli is a member of the Swiss Parliament, from the FDP.The Liberals party. He was first elected Municipal Councilor (executive) for the Commune de Montreux in 2000 and became its mayor in 2011. After that, he became a member of the legislative assembly (Grand Conseil) of the Canton of Vaud from 2002 to 2015 and former President of this assembly for the political year 2013-2014. He joined the Swiss Parliament (National Council) in 2015, where he sits on the Foreign Affairs Committee and is the president of the Swiss Delegation to the Francophonia Parliamentary Assembly (APF). Mr. Wehrli is also president of the Swiss Federation of Firemen, which brings together the 100,000 part–time and professional firemen of Switzerland and Liechtenstein, and president of the Swiss Section of the Conseil des Communes et régions d’Europe (ASCCRE). In the past, he was editor-in-chief of a monthly business magazine and he owns a project management company which operates internationally. Born in 1965, he is married and has five children and two grand-children.
