Biography

Ildefonso Guajardo Villarreal is a Member of the Mexican Chamber of Deputies since 2021. Former Secretary of Economy from 2012 to 2018, his professional career has developed in a wide variety of fields, both public and private. Among others, Mr. Guajardo Villarreal has been Director of Public Finance and Macroeconomic Policy of the SPP (1984-1985), Chief Economist of the Brazil Section and Associate Economist of the Fiscal Affairs Department of the IMF (1990-1991), Senior Official of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1994-1997), and Chief of the Planning, Communication and Liaison Unit of SECOFI (1998-1999). In the political field, he was a Local Deputy of Nuevo Leon from 2006 to 2009 and later Federal Deputy until 2012. He is the Chairman of the Economic Committee, as well as a member of the Finance and Public Credit Committee. Graduate in Economics from the Autonomous University of Nuevo León, he holds a Master's degree in Economics and a PhD in Public Finance. He is member of the National College of Economist, and former Chair of Ansley International Consultants (2020). Mr. Guajardo is Adjunct Professor at Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, as well as Professor of Economics at the University of Nuevo León.
