Description

Asuria is a proud Australian-owned government outsourced services provider supporting thousands of people across Australia, Europe, and the Middle East. Our capability and expertise mean we continuously seek to understand government requirements and desired outcomes to develop services that really make a difference. For over 25 years Asuria has successfully delivered human services on behalf of government, across employment, welfare, community services, education, training, self-employment and allied health. Asuria supports the long-term unemployed and most disadvantaged people, youth at risk, single parents, First Nations, justice linked, mature-aged and people with disability to find and keep a job, participate in their community and reduce dependence on income assistance. What makes Asuria truly unique is that all our people are truly enterprising at heart. The Asuria culture drives a sense of innovation, excitement and passion in all programs and services we deliver. Asuria is a people business that beats to an Enterprising Heart. We believe the success of our services comes from having every employee treat every job seeker with empathy, dignity and respect, supported by the adaptation of the latest thinking in cognitive science and behavioural economics to ensure we focus on every job seeker’s strengths. The Self-Employment Assistance Program: For more than 35 years, the Australian Government has supported more than 250,000 unemployed or underemployed people to start their own small business through Self-Employment Assistance, formerly known as NEIS. Self-Employment Assistance (SEA), through providers like Asuria, provides participants with financial support, training, and mentorship, to help participants become financially independent by creating their own small business, or by helping eligible business owners to adjust their business. Asuria has over 21 years’ experience delivering Self-Employment Assistance and NEIS. Asuria is currently supporting over 1000 people to start a small business in over 68 regional and metropolitan locations across Australia. What can other communities learn from this example? The Self-Employment Assistance program has allowed flexibility for providers like Asuria to tailor the services for specific cohorts and communities which could be replicated and improved upon: •Industry Engagement: Working directly with industries with unique challenges to build industry specific content, such as our experience with personal trainers in the fitness industry. •Participants with Disability: Tailoring workshop delivery for participants with disability •Inclusion and Reduction of Inequalities: SEA promotes access to tools and support systems for vulnerable populations, including the development of female entrepreneurship and people with disabilities. •Integration of Young Graduates: Facilitating opportunities for young graduates entering the labour market by encouraging and supporting entrepreneurship, such as our work building and promoting self-employment pathways for women completing a trade apprenticeship •Reduction of Informal Economy: By promoting individual initiative and supporting business development, SEA contributes directly to reducing the informal economy.
