OECD Local Development Forum 2025 Annual Meeting

Cooperativism and SSE for territorial development: towards the Barranquilla Agreement

Jul 11, 2025 | 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM

Puerta de Oro - Deep dive room 2

Description

This official side event will serve as the closing session of a regional process led by cooperatives and social and solidarity economy (SSE) organizations from Latin America and the Caribbean. It will showcase innovative experiences and key lessons at the intersection of cooperativism, SSE, and local development. The two-hour session will include: • Presentations of concrete case studies by invited speakers. • An open dialogue with participants and guests. • The collective launch of the Barranquilla Agreement for Cooperativism and SSE, a voluntary declaration that seeks to articulate a shared vision for inclusive, sustainable, and place-based development. Inspired by recent OECD recommendations and United Nations resolutions, this initiative aims to amplify local voices, foster regional and global partnerships, and further position SSE as a transformative force for just transitions. As 2025 has been proclaimed the International Year of Cooperatives, this session offers a strategic platform to demonstrate why cooperatives are helping to build a better world. This session is both a culmination and a beginning: a bridge between local practices and global commitments — between the dream of solidarity and the policies that can bring it to life.
