John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation
Presentation
Lori is the Chief Credit Officer, Impact Investments of the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation – a private, global philanthropy with approximately $6 billion in assets and annual grantmaking of approximately $250 million. A pioneer in impact investment, MacArthur has dedicated $500 million of its assets for this purpose. MacArthur’s impact investments meet the capital needs of special-purpose funds, for-profit businesses and nonprofit organizations tackling environmental and social challenges around the world. Lori is responsible for providing oversight, credit information, and investment policies to ensure the overall quality of the Foundation’s impact investing portfolio. Lori has connected impact investors with investment opportunities that meet their social and financial goals for over 20 years. She has developed and implemented a wide range of impact strategies including post-Hurricane Katrina recovery, reaching bottom of the pyramid customers in developing markets, and a national, faith-based fund. Prior to joining MacArthur, she provided investors with strategic advice and custom tools to build and operate high-performing impact funds, including the US Department of Treasury CDFI Fund Bond Guaranty program, the Aeris financial institution rating agency, and the launch of a European family offices’ first impact investing fund. Lori grew Community Investment Partners, a subsidiary of Calvert Impact Capital, to over $250 million in investments under management and provided advisory services to leading institutions to build and grow their impact investment programs. She developed the strategy, designed the capitalization structure, launched, and managed the assets over several years, of five high performing impact intermediaries. Lori serves on the board and loan committees of Primary Care Development Corporation, a Community Development Finance Institution based in New York.
