Mr. Juan Yermo took up his functions as Deputy Chief of Staff to the Secretary-General of the OECD on 1st October 2014.
In this role, he supports the Chief of Staff in steering the strategic agenda of the Secretary-General, and in managing the cabinet and day-to-day operations. He also steers a whole-of-Organisation initiative to coordinate targeted policy advice and reform support to countries, as well as voluntary contributions. He leads efforts to strengthen collaboration partnerships with other stakeholders, foundations in particular, and helps oversee the OECD Action Plan on the SDGs.
Previous to his current position, Mr Yermo acted as Senior Economic Advisor to the Secretary-General and was the editor of the Better Policies Series.
Mr Yermo joined the OECD in July 1999 as head of the private pensions unit. He oversaw the Working Party on Private Pensions and led the launch of the OECD Pensions Outlook, among other publications. Before joining the Office of the Secretary-General, Mr Yermo was Deputy Head of the Financial Affairs Division of the Directorate for Financial and Enterprise Affairs. He supported the organisation’s input to the G20 project on investment financing, including the development of the G20-OECD High-level Principles of Long-term Investment Financing by Institutional Investors.
Prior to joining the OECD, Mr Yermo was a consultant for the Latin America and Caribbean Department of the World Bank, and a Risk Analyst for Bankers Trust.
Mr Yermo holds a Ph.D. (DPhil) and MPhil in Economics from Oxford University, and an MA in Economics from Cambridge University. He is a Spanish national.
