Carlos Mario Giraldo Moreno is the Chief Executive Officer of Grupo Éxito, a leading retail platform in South America. During his time as CEO of Grupo Éxito, he has overseen major group acquisitions in Brazil and Argentina and a significant expansion of operations in Colombia through various integration initiatives. He has also overseen a number of innovations in group operations, including the development of an omnichannel strategy, a major delivery service alliance and the launch of digital marketplace.
Prior to being appointed as CEO in 2013, Mr. Giraldo Moreno held the position of COO of Retail at the company. He has over 25 years of experience in mass consumption, including 13 years at Grupo Nutresa (as CEO for different business lines and Group Executive Vice President) and 12 years at Grupo Éxito.
Mr. Giraldo Moreno has also held and holds various Board appointments, including as President of the General Board of Directors at ANDI (National Business Association of Colombia) (2003-2004), President of the Board of Directors at the Coca Cola Retail Council for the Americas (2012-2014), Senior Member of the Board of Directors at Interconexión Eléctrica S.A. (ISA) (since 2013) and a Board member for Copa Airlines Colombia (since 2013). Since 2018, he has also been a member of the Council of Proantioquia, a non-profit, privately operated foundation, established in 1975 by a group of prominent entrepreneurs from Antioquia.
Mr. Giraldo Moreno holds a law degree from the Universidad de MedellÃn and a specialization in commercial law from the Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana, both in Colombia, as well as a master’s degree in law from Tulane University. He has studied strategic management and retail planning at Babson College and updating courses in management and marketing at Kellogg and Stanford.
Mr. Giraldo Moreno was named Businessman of the Year in 2016 by Diario La Républica and ranked 5th in Merco’s 2018 survey on Leaders with the best reputation in Colombia.
