Description
Researcher, focused on the critical and participatory study of environmental and agrarian conflicts. She studied Philosophy at the National University of Colombia and completed her master’s degree in Cultural Studies at the same university, where she graduated with distinction.
She obtained her PhD degree in Political Geography at the University of Copenhagen, thanks to a scholarship from Colciencias. She was awarded the Fulbright Scholarship for visiting researchers in the United States and the Francisco José de Caldas Scholarship for postgraduate studies abroad, awarded by the Ministry of Science.
She has been a professor and researcher at the Universidad del Valle, and was part of the BioNovo project of the Ministry of Sciences in recent years, Vélez has specialized in issues related to mercury pollution in mining operations in Colombia, the impacts of the use of agrochemicals, the dispossession of water and land, food sovereignty in rural and ethnic contexts.
