Justin Vaïsse
Paris Peace Forum
Founder and General Director
Description
Justin Vaïsse is the Founder and Director General of the Paris Peace Forum (PPF), an independent non-profit organization he created in 2018 under the impetus of French President Emmanuel Macron. The Paris Peace Forum is an annual event that aims at promoting new rules and solutions to address the global challenges of our time. The fifth edition took place on Nov. 11-12 2022 at the Palais Brongniart in Paris and convened 32 heads of state and international organizations as well as 4800 participants from the private sector, NGOs, foundations and civil society at large.
During this edition, the PPF launched a Call to Action inviting relevant actors to act together for a responsible critical minerals sector, as well as a coalition that includes the full spectrum of relevant stakeholders (business, civil society and political bodies), from across the North/South divide. It is currently composed of representatives from over 20 organizations including international organizations, responsible alliances, business representatives, NGOs, and foundations. Members of the coalition have agreed on the need to enable the ecological transition by ensuring that global supply chains for critical minerals function sustainably, and by removing obstacles to collaboration around these supply chains.
Prior to creating PPF, Justin Vaïsse headed the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Centre for Analysis, Forecasting and Strategy for six years, from 2013 to 2019. He also was Director of Research at the Brookings Institution in Washington (2007-2013) where he worked on transatlantic relations and European foreign policy. A historian specialising in the United States and international relations, he has taught at Sciences Po and SAIS (Johns Hopkins University). Justin Vaïsse is the author of numerous articles and a dozen books translated into several languages.
