Integrating the OECD Due diligence for responsible minerals as a mitigating response to the twin challenges of climate change and technological innovation. The response to climate change brings its own challenges such as the disruptive potential impacts of technological innovations and the transition to renewable energy for a low carbon energy future. This requires therefore a need to mediate the damaging impact of the response. The future of work is uncertain for vulnerable workforces such as in the coal mining industry and the internal combustion engines auto sector. Â
The race to the bottom to meet the demand for the much-needed critical raw materials is a constant reality for workers and communities, including artisanal small mining sector, raising in the process the demand for accountability in the mining sector and along the supply chain. [DRC video]

Most jurisdictions in the European Union have adopted variations of supply chain due diligence requirements (and labour rights are a key requirement component). Both the ILO Guidelines and the Paris Agreement highlight the imperatives of a just transition and the creation of decent work as essential dimensions of climate change.
