“When the abused become the abuser” Working conditions of security guards: a critical driver of respect for Human Rights in Responsible Mineral Supply Chains

Apr 28, 2023 | 7:00 AM - 8:30 AM

Partner session - Auditorium

Description

Organised by: International Code of Conduct Association "Working conditions in private security are a critical, yet totally overlooked driver for compliance with human rights in mineral supply chains. Too often, keeping costs to a minimum is one the main factors in the selection of private security providers. This comes with a price. In many cases, security workers, poorly vetted and poorly trained, face terrible working conditions, leading to cascading human rights problems as the abused become the abuser. Following a presentation of the key findings of a global research on working conditions in private security, this session will explore avenues to help extractive companies raise their standards when contracting PSPs."
