Organised by: IndustriALL Global Union; The Initiative for Responsible Mining and Assurance (IRMA), IndustriALL – Europe, TUAC Integrating the OECD Due diligence for responsible minerals as a mitigating response to the twin challenges of climate change and technological innovation. The response to climate change brings its own challenges such as the disruptive potential impacts of technological innovations and the transition to renewable energy for a low carbon energy future. This requires therefore a need to mediate the damaging impact of the response. The future of work is uncertain for vulnerable workforces such as in the coal mining industry and the internal combustion engines auto sector.   The race to the bottom to meet the demand for the much-needed critical raw materials is a constant reality for workers and communities, including artisanal small mining sector, raising in the process the demand for accountability in the mining sector and along the supply chain. [DRC video] Human Rights due diligence in the supply chain has become an important criterion for global MNC accountability and impact mitigation. Most jurisdictions in the European Union have adopted variations of supply chain due diligence requirements (and labour rights are a key requirement component). Supply chain Human Rights Due Diligence (HRDD) also forms a critical standard and audit requirements for voluntary standards, such as the Initiative for Responsible Mining and Assurance Standard for Responsible Mining (IRMA). challenges of climate change and technological transformation of production and the world of work. Both the ILO Guidelines and the Paris Agreement highlight the imperatives of a just transition and the creation of decent work as essential dimensions of climate change. For labor, Just Transition is at the center of Human Rights Due Diligence (HRDD).
