2023 Forum on Responsible Mineral Supply Chains

From Mine to Battery: Responsible Nickel Supply Chains for the Energy Transition

Apr 25, 2023 | 8:30 AM - 10:00 AM

Partner session - Auditorium

Description

Organised by: Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), Sino-German Center for Sustainable Development (CSD), China Chamber of Commerce of Metals, Minerals and Chemicals (CCCMC) and Responsible Critical Minerals Initiative (RCI) Accounting for more than a third of global production, Indonesia is currently the largest nickel producing country and likely to become of strategic importance worldwide - considering current demand scenarios for the next decades. However, nickel supply chains also pose challenges for the country, particularly the need to mitigate environmental and social impacts of nickel mining, processing and battery manufacturing. In discussion with stakeholders from government, private sector and civil society, this panel will address possibilities to effectively create change in the nickel industry and its supply chain. This session will be held in English with Chinese interpretation.
