The transition to a sustainable, low-carbon future requires companies to disengage from fossil fuels rapidly but also in a responsible manner. A key element of responsible disengagement is for the exiting companies to contribute to the remediation of adverse impacts to which the companies contributed while operating. The session will explore these issues through the lens of coal mined in Colombia, the adverse human rights impacts in the context of armed conflict and post-conflict, and the responsibilities of both mining and energy companies if and when they exit such contexts.
