This session takes as its starting point a study conducted by SWISSAID that quantifies and maps gold flows in Africa, with a particular focus on production and trade. The aim of this study is to reduce the opacity of large parts of the African gold sector to enable decision-makers of all kinds to take measures to address the issues at stake, including illicit gold flows, human rights violations and the financing of armed conflicts. During the session, SWISSAID will present the results of the study, several speakers will discuss them, and a roundtable will debate the issue more generally, highlighting possible solutions and existing good practices.
