Description
Organised by the ITSCI Programme
In light of recent developments and dynamics in North Kivu, DRC, ITSCI will present a case study with concrete insights into specific challenges and risks recorded on the ground for instance related to security, armed groups or mineral fraud, and how these risks impact activities. While risks and incidents are to be expected in CAHRA, the session will discuss how they can be managed, from fostering multi-stakeholder engagement to reaching local agreement on risk mitigation actions, while avoiding harmful disengagement by companies sourcing from the area. A discussion will follow on how ITSCI information can be used for upstream and downstream due diligence, including best practices and improvement opportunities to leverage such information to address risks on the ground, while avoiding over-reliance on schemes.
